Unsung Angels

Welcome to the Unsung Angels Youth Gun Prevention Mentoring Program!

About the Program:

The Unsung Angels Youth Gun Prevention Mentoring Program is a community-based initiative dedicated to preventing gun violence among youths aged 12-18. Our program is inspired by the memory of Jamyla Bolden, a young life taken tragically due to gun violence. We aim to honor her legacy by empowering young individuals, fostering mentorship relationships, and promoting education and community engagement.

Our Program Components:

1. Unsung Angels Mentor Recruitment and Training: We carefully select and train adult mentors from within the community who are passionate about gun violence prevention and supporting youth. Our mentors undergo comprehensive training in trauma-informed care, mentoring techniques, and gun violence prevention strategies.

s, and recreational activities promote self-expression and build supportive relationships among participants.

2. Mentor-Youth Match Process: We match each participating youth with a mentor who shares similar backgrounds, experiences, or interests. These mentorship relationships serve as a crucial support system for our participants.

3. Empowering Educational Workshops and Seminars: We organize interactive workshops and seminars on gun violence prevention, trauma healing, conflict resolution, and nonviolent communication. Guest speakers, including survivors of gun violence, community leaders, and professionals, share their stories and expertise.

4. Skill-Building Activities: To foster personal growth and resilience, we offer skill-building activities such as self-esteem building, emotional intelligence, goal setting, and coping mechanisms. Team-building exercises, creative arts programs, and recreational activities promote self-expression and build supportive relationships among participants.

5. Healing Circles and Support Groups: We facilitate healing circles and support groups where participants can share their experiences, emotions, and challenges related to gun violence. Our aim is to provide a safe and empathetic space for individuals to process their grief, trauma, and anger.

6. Community Outreach and Advocacy: We engage with the community through awareness campaigns, rallies, and events focused on gun violence prevention. By collaborating with local organizations, schools, and community leaders, we conduct workshops, trainings, and panel discussions. We encourage participants to become advocates for gun violence prevention and engage in community service and legislative efforts.

7. Evaluation and Program Enhancement: We regularly evaluate the impact of our program through surveys, interviews, and feedback from participants, mentors, and community members. This enables us to continuously improve our program components, address any gaps in services, and enhance the overall experience for participants.
